Reasons To Watch Shaakuntalam: Excitement And Expectations

The story of Shakuntala and Dushyanta from the Mahabharat is one of our culture's most celebrated love stories, which has carved out a throne for itself in diverse fields like literature, music, art, etc. More than a love story, it has many layers and each character holds a special impression in our minds. Shakuntala as a woman who fights for identity and struggles to uphold her dignity has inspired millions and she is one of the finest representatives of the strong and insightful female protagonists in our epics much like Mata Sita and Draupadi.

It is very exciting to watch the tale we have once visualized in our heads, in all its grandeur on the big screen. Here are the top reasons why you should not miss this on the big screen:

1. A Visual Treat

It is pointless to be skeptical about the visual treat that this movie will offer on the big screen as it is evident from the teaser and trailer. The VFX looks decent and will be even better when the movie comes out. For films like these which are based on epics, because at least a small section of the audience already knows the story, presentation is the key. The makers must be well aware of this and we can surely expect them to present really pleasing visuals.

2. Samantha As Shakuntala

The character of Shakuntala is deep and multi-layered. Thus, it is highly important to ensure that this role goes to the hand of a talented and popular actress and Samantha is the best choice. The divine aura mixed with the subtle emotions of a human pulled into different hardships of life is the basic template of the character and this can be very much visualized in Samantha's charisma and acting skill. Shakuntala is a character who questions the injustices towards women and projects a new perception of women's empowerment and strength and let us expect this movie brings out one of the best performances in Samantha's career.

3. Enchanting Story That Flows Like A Calm River

The Mahabharat readers might already know that this is not a love-action drama. It is a love story mixed with complex human emotions which moves at a slow pace much like a calm river. It has a lot to do with understanding the characters and feeling them. For those looking for a feel-good movie to relax with family this weekend, Shaakuntalam is the best pick.

4. Soul-melting Music and Exhilarating Choreography

The music by Mani Sharma would be enthralling as the music glimpses released earlier were soul-melting. We can also expect the choreography to be beautifully crafted as it is the core aspect for movies like this. If executed properly, Shaakuntalam would be extremely appealing to a greater section of the audience and has a high chance of becoming a classic that will be remembered for ages.

5. Bringing Back The Lost Glory Of Our Traditional Stories

With greater exposure to world cinema, the younger generation is forgetting our epics and traditional stories with morals. Movies of this genre must also thrive in our industry because we have a great culture and the values embedded in the heart of these stories should reach the younger generation. For this, proper execution is mandatory. Let us hope that Shaakuntalam would bring back the soul of our culture to a larger section of the audience.

Shaakuntalam, directed by Gunasekhar, starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Dev Mohan, Allu Arha, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Madhoo, and Prakash Raj opens in theatres on 14th April 2023.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan Review: A Dull And Unnecessary Remake

Critic's Rating: 2/5 Synopsis: Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is a remake of the 2014 Tamil movie Veeram. The film follows the life of Bhaijaan (Salman Khan) who is repulsive towards marriage as he doesn't want to get separated from his beloved brothers. But his life turns unexpectedly when a gorgeous girl Bhagya Lakshmi Gundamaneni (Pooja Hegde) comes to his house as a tenant. Review Performances The film is enjoyable, especially for hard-core Salman Khan fans as Bhai is back with an action-packed family drama and he tries really hard to make his character lovable by projecting out his chiseled-bulky, heavy body, and Bhai's specific mannerisms and is pretty much successful in it. Bhai steals the show with his awesome screen presence and swag, especially in the second half. His dialogue delivery is appreciable notably, the ones with Venkatesh. Bhai pulls out humorous scenes with ease with his awesome comic timing.  Pooja Hegde got a meaty role and did her part well. But, the S...

Shaakuntalam Review: A Grand Visual Spectacle That Deserved Better Storytelling

Critic's Rating: 3/5 Synopsis: Based on Kalidasa's most celebrated poem Abijnana Shaakuntalam, the film retells the epical love story of Shakuntala (who is the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and divine being Menaka) and King Dushyanta, who marries her according to Gaandharva vidhi. Things turn upside down when the curse of sage Durvasa makes Dushyanta forget Shakuntala. The hardships faced by Shakuntala and how she and her son reunites with Dushyanta form the crux of the story. Review Performances Samantha did her job pretty well as Shakuntala. She perfectly handled the highly emotional scenes and was successful to get deep into the character to pour her heart out to make the audience feel the character. Her divine looks as an innocent girl, combined with royalty as the queen helped her nail the character with such an ease. Her voice modulation could have been better and the dubbing doesn't seem to align with the intensity of her performance. But in total, Samantha deserves...
